Hi, I’m Monica. Things You’ll Love is where I share what I’m collecting: books, music, recipes, slow rituals, and minor wonders. Think of it as my kitchen table. You’re always welcome here.
Y’all. It’s Thursday and I’m working on this from the endodontist’s chair— I have to get a ROOT CANAL. This is not a thing I’m loving.
But, I am loving the dentist, who’s as perky and funny and kind as someone who’s gonna get all up in your mouth should be. They numbed me and I’m writing to y’all as I wait for the anesthesia round 1 to kick in. 🥴
Something to listen to
This one’s old, but it’s playing in my headphones (they encourage folks to listen to music and block out their work) and I’d forgotten how great it was. The strumming on the offbeat and the pulse of the song gives me so much life, even as the nerve in my tooth has died 😂.
Something to cook
I haven’t made either of these yet, but don’t they both look amazing? I love samosas, so this recipe seems like a fun try.
I’ve never made samosas before— and, something else that mixes potatoes and peas seems like it’d have to be a winner.
If hot foods aren’t your jam right now, this cold noodle recipe might hit the spot.
I have made variations of this recipe, after trying the whole foods cold noodle salad maybe 10-15 years ago and falling in love with it, but not it’s per pound price. I thought I might’ve even had a picture of it, but I don’t.
My favorite thing about this salad is that you can tweak everything about it— add the veggies you have on hand, spice up the sauce a bit, tone it down. It’s very flexible and forgiving.
I will say, though, that if you like to batch food prep as I do, this isn’t a good candidate. The noodles get wonky after a couple days.
Something to make you smile
Goats. On a bus. I’m not sure there’s more to say! Watch the short video here.
So, I’m finishing this piece up two weeks later, right before I go back to my dentist’s office for the second part of my root canal (aka it’s a short issue this week!). Wish me luck!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s little delights. Tell me, which one was your favorite?
