Things I'm Loving (v.20)
Post-Election Edition: Paper snowflake crafting, liberatory books, inspirational coaching, candle cosiness and a super cute calendar.
Well, the election has come and gone and we’ll be experiencing the reverberations for quite some time. I wrote a post on Facebook earlier this week that you can check out here, if you’d like, for some of my thoughts.
In the meantime, here are some resources that I’m loving that are anchoring me for the next few weeks and months.
Something for play
Look at these snowflakes made out of paper bags from Kwendy Homes!!!!! Aren’t they incredible?
I love the idea of making snowflakes, maybe while celebrating Candletime (see below) as well. Some calm, cozy creating is just what these colder days and darker times call for.
And, you could even make it a group/communal activity, where you get together with others and make snowflakes.
Something to read
If you’re looking for some extra reading to bolster your understanding and offer some action-taking for the months to come, Haymarket Books are offering 10(!) ebooks for free until Nov 22nd.
I’m especially looking forward to reading Elite Capture: How the Powerful Took Over Identity Politics and Everything Else, and re-reading How We Get Free.
Have you read any of them? If you have a favorite one, or other book recommendations, let us know in the comments below!
Something for when you’re looking for community
Yael Dubin is an IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapist who I met a while back when we were both presenters at Ruth Poundwhite’s Soulful Sales Summit.
She’s offering a monthly Inspiration Hour that’s meant for folks who:
“…experienced the results of the 2024 U.S. elections as a blow to their soul. Who are concerned about their own personal safety in a climate of increasing hostility to women, queer folks, and people of color. Who stand to be materially damaged by changes to health care policy, employment laws, and anti-discrimination protections.”
I’m looking forward to connecting with others and seeing how we can support and uplift one another while also organizing against the “Pumpkin Spice Paladine” and all his cronies.
Something to help you slow down
My Facebook friend, Magda Pecsenye, started Candletime to help alleviate the collapsing of November and December.
Here's a brief description of Candletime, from its Facebook page:
“Candletime runs from November 1 through the day before American Thanksgiving (November 22nd this year).
To celebrate, when you come home at night, light some candles (or use electric candles) and sit enjoying the sparkly light while drinking a beverage of your choice. Popular beverage choices include tea, hot cider, cold cider, water, wine, beer, hot cocoa, coffee, soda, and bourbon. Candletime can be celebrated alone or with others, and you can observe as many days of the holiday period as you choose.
You can blow out the candles whenever you want (they don't have to burn down on their own).
There's no website for Candletime, because it's not a commercial holiday!”
If you'd prefer to follow along on Instagram, the page lives here.
Wildcard: Something to prompt delight
I own several of Jennifer Price’s Angels and I’m so excited for her 2025 Angel Calendar, “Til We Free Us”.
Looking to add more delight to your day-to-day? I can’t think of a better calendar than this one, for that.
Okay, well, that’s it for this week (which was planned for last week but took a break to breath-catch post election).
We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled posting shortly!
