Recapturing Your Own Attention

An interview with Jill Clifton from Landscape of Mothers

Hi, I’m Monica. Things You’ll Love is where I share what I’m collecting: books, music, recipes, slow rituals, and small wonders. Think of it as my kitchen table. You’re always welcome here.

Welcome to this very first Substack live! I had the pleasure to chat with my friend and colleague Jill Doneen Clifton.

Jill is a writer, ocean scientist, and the creator of Landscape of Mothers. We met through Randi Buckley’s boundaries work, pre-pandemic, and we’ve been in each other’s orbits ever since.

During our chat, we talked about recapturing your own attention: what that means, why it matters, and what the natural world has to do with it.

Related: We discussed what it means to belong somewhere that isn’t made of noise, and the birds in our yards — the mockingbirds at my suet feeder and the cowbird at Jill’s.

I think you’ll love her.

For anyone who wants to keep going with what we talked about today, find Jill at landscapeofmothers.com and on Substack.

Her email course Mother Nature starts June 3rd with a live gathering on June 17th. I’m taking it and I cannot wait!

And for those of you who are new here: thank you for showing up. This newsletter is a place to notice what’s worth noticing, and conversations like this one are part of how we do that together.

This publication is free, and it will stay that way. These conversations are the kind that make you want to go pour a cup of something slow and look out the window. If that feels supportive to you, consider upgrading to a paid subscription. Either way, I appreciate you.
